Behind Steady Skill 2 min read

A little more about Colton

Why I started Steady Skill AI, and what patient, practical learning means to me.

Colton Lowry, founder of Steady Skill AI

Hi, I’m Colton Lowry, a software engineer and the founder of Coastal Dev. I build websites and software, but some of the most rewarding work I do starts with a much smaller question: “Could you show me how?”

Steady Skill AI grew from those conversations. It’s a way to help people feel more comfortable with AI by working on things that matter in their own lives and businesses.

How Steady Skill began

While building a website and CRM with a small-business owner, I also began teaching her to use Claude. We worked through questions together, one hour at a time, using the work in front of us as a place to practice.

That experience gave me the idea for Steady Skill: patient, personal help learning these tools, with growing independence as the goal.

Start with something that matters

I’d rather begin with a real question than a long list of features. Maybe you want to write a clearer reply, organize information, or explore an idea you’ve been putting off. We can use that task to practice asking better questions, improving the result, and understanding what the tool is doing.

Confidence includes judgment

Learning AI also means knowing when to pause. We practice checking answers, protecting private information, and recognizing when a task needs a person’s judgment. Feeling comfortable with a tool should include knowing its limits.

Your next small step

You don’t need to keep up with every new tool or arrive with technical experience. I want you to leave with an approach you understand and can try again, with a little more confidence than you had before.

If there’s something you’re curious about, bring it along. We’ll find a useful place to start together.
